Scott Winchester Hunts Saskatchewan Whitetail
My name is Scott Winchester. I’m from Auburn Massachusetts and I’ve been hunting big game for over 50 years. I’ve been hunting whitetail for 53 years back home there’s a large number of deer but there’s no comparison to the size and the quality of the deer here up in Chaparral Adventures. Moose, elk, bear, and deer and I’ve hunted all over United States and Canada. This is my third time at Chaparral and I’ve done guided hunts for probably 36 years and I would say that this probably one of the best outfitters I’ve been to yet. I chose Chaparral Adventures, in the beginning, they’re referred to me by Cabelas Travel Adventures and once I got here and I saw how hard Greg worked, how honest he is. The accommodations are phenomenal. You have your own room, the food is fantastic, and we also did a bear hunt and then we did some fishing. Had phenomenal fishing for walleye and Pike. They’re just trying to do everything right and he’s as honest as they come, as hard working as they come and you can’t go wrong by coming to Chaparral Adventures.
Some of the the first thoughts were the way that he sets it up, there’s no favoritism. First you draw your names out of a hat to see who draws first then you draw out of the hat to see who gets what stand so nobody knows what’s visiting what site so everybody has an even chance and it’s done that way the whole time through the hunt. The stands are custom made they’re so comfortable and they are solid, roomy you couldn’t ask for better.
We did the whitetail hunt, we hunted 6 days dark to dark out of the tree stands and it was down to 43 below zero and we never came out once and we’ll always remember that ’cause not everybody was as crazy as us. But we put our time in and Greg respects that and we respect the time and effort he puts in to give us the best hunt possible.
Well we’ve hunted for beer. We’ve seen a number of beer. We’ve hunted for deer and we’ve some seen some tremendous deer and we’ve seen moose along the way and we’ve seen a variety of wildlife and there’s nothing that does a soul better than just the peace and quiet out in the wilderness here at the Chaparral. I’ve seen some some deer, I had some on the camera that I saw during the day and I did send a few pictures back home.
We hunted the last season the last week of the year before where we had extreme cold then we wanted to try the first week, muzzle loader because the stands are virgin, nobody’s been in them and after experiencing this I think the next time I’ll come back, they’ll also put up popup blinds for if you want to bow hunt so I think the next time I’ll try the bow hunting.
The first time I’ve been to I’ve been doing outfitted hunts for 35, 36 years and the reason I come back to Greg is I probably never met anyone as honest as he is. Just the way that he does everything. In all, fairness to every hunter, and you have your own room, he picks you up at the motel. Everything is pretty much straightforward. You treat him with respect, he treats you with respect, you treat the wildlife with respect. Everybody’s on the same page and you just can’t find a harder working outfitter, a more honest outfitter. Everything they do is just the way that you’d like it to be and that’s why you keep coming back and you recommend it to other friends.
While we are hunting in the stands, Greg and the guides are always busy managing the other stands, reloading the sites with feed, taking care of any gear, gear maintenance & constantly monitoring trail cam activity as part of their management program.
Well you have everything set up out here. It’s all scent free and when you come out here everything is waiting for you so you get set up in here and then you take your gear outside, you get into the vehicle or into the ATV, which is, you know, all the best of equipment and then you head out to your assigned stand and there you are for the day. Before you head out to your all day hunt you have a great breakfast, your lunches are made for you and then when you get back you got a wonderful meal. Start with hot soup and the cook is wonderful and it’s just a great camaraderie and a great atmosphere. You just can’t go wrong, Greg Lavoie, Chaparral Adventures, number one.
