2025 Spring Black Bear Preview
As an Outfitter, a hunting season is very different for us than for a single hunter. For the 2 months prior to the season we are checking all our equipment, getting bait barrels ready, scouting our stand/bait locations, setting up the stands, and everything else that a hunter does, times 38. For the season, we live vicariously through our hunters. But that’s why we are Outfitters, we enjoy the thrill of the hunt, with each hunter, for each hunter.
The thing that is so exciting about our spring bear hunt is setting established bait’s up and also new baits and waiting and anticipating that first camera check to see what is lurking in the forest. Also the spring air in the forest is by far the best air!
With our new bear lease we are up to 38 bait/stand sites. We will be adding more as we continue to scout the new lease.
We had most of our baits rolling by mid April. We like to have the food sitting waiting for the big boys when they wake up from their long winters nap!
Some of the smaller bears were on the baits mid-April. It is always a slow start. Until you hear the frogs and see a few bugs, there are no bears. BUT, when they start to eat, we are always ready to keep the baits topped up.
Check out some of the bears hitting the baits this past week. Is that 6 or 7 bears in the last image?
