May 20, 2014 – Outfitter musings

Last weekend the wife and I made it up to the lake for a couple days doing some spring cleaning and checking of trail cameras.  Our three daughters all had other plans (teenagers !!) and it just felt too quiet only us at the cabin.  So I told Jackie I was going to do something at night that I had been looking forward to for quite some time.  At 10 pm I threw on my jacket and went cruising the roads looking for deer,( Jackie looked relieved?).  The ditches are first to green up and this makes a great place to see how the deer wintered.  It didn’t take long and deer were spotted in the head lights along the roads, I seen lots of deer in groups of two or more,  and many were yearlings which is a good sign that the deer wintered well in our area.  A couple hours passed by before getting back to the cabin but it was great to see lots of deer!! Next morning I checked trail cameras and had many pictures of deer, bear and moose.  The one camera was damaged and totally out of alignment when a young bear pulled on it, my fault for not having it in a protective box.  I will post some pictures from the camera and its pretty obvious when the bear decided it was time to investigate this flashing box.
