June 25, 2014 – Johnny Koop joins staff at Chaparral
This may be the first year that we shoot our first buck with gills and fins!! The rain here is non stop. I have more exciting news about our upcoming season, Johnny Koop is going to be a part of our already great group of guides. Johnny is a young family man who I have referred to as our local trapper. He guides bear hunters, runs a trap line, and is a long time whitetail deer guide, with the majority of this happening in Chaparral’s allocation. We are thrilled to have him working for us as nobody spends more time in the woods than Johnny. Already he has found many new locations for deer stands. His youth, energy and knowledge of hunting cannot be understated, and I am excited to see all the positives he will bring to our camp. The ownership at Chaparral has changed, but the guys that made this place great mostly remain. I consider myself very lucky to have such a strong camp of guides, mentors and friends. Everyone’s input is required and I value the local warden’s recommendations also. To ensure long term stability in our herd the number of hunters Chaparral will take this fall will be reduced so everyone at camp will have an opportunity for a great buck, but as a whole the area will benefit from a smaller harvest. The past few days had me back out in the woods and Kyle came along to check cameras. Kyle is going to give me a hand this summer working the trail cameras. As usual we have many velvet bucks caught on camera and will attach them for your viewing.
