July 30, 2015- Deer herd rebounding

This weekend is the August long weekend and the lake will be busy; as well, August 1 is the first day we can start baiting deer. I don’t start baiting most sites until the end of September as an established site remains in the deers memory and they appear quickly once the oats hit the ground. The new stand locations will get early attention and give the deer in that area more time to adjust to this new found wealth.
It’s great to see mature bucks on the trail cameras already but another positive is the fawns that we are seeing as there appears to be many sets of twins being caught on camera. I do not usually post these pictures, however fawns can tell us lots about the last winter. The easier the winter, the higher the fawn numbers. I have been saying last winter was a good one for the deer herd.

Most hunters have made their hunting preparations awhile back and for those guys that can make last minute hunts fit their schedule now is the time to be enquiring about cancellation hunts, Chaparral has a few openings of this nature and if it fits your schedule the savings will be worth it, give me a call at 780-872-0137. Once again I will leave you with some more trail camera pictures.
